Hello and Welcome!
I'm Shanna Staples (she/they)
I'm a Nationally Certified Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor of Mental Health, Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and Certified Sex Therapist who works with adults who have ongoing challenges with depression, anxiety, and feeling disconnected from themselves or others.
My goal is to help you emerge from the cycle of negative thoughts and to support you in rediscovering authenticity and meaningful connection.
My Journey To Becoming A Therapist
I’m no different from the clients I see. Like everyone else, I'm human. I've been been through both wonderful and difficult experiences that have shaped who I am and how I help.
While growing up, I witnessed both of my parents struggle with substance use and untreated mental health conditions. Having these experiences motivated me to enter into the field of mental health in order to help individuals who desired help themselves. I know the importance of being able to show up for myself and my clients therefore I prioritize attending to my personal mental health by also attending therapy.
My life experiences are what lead me to become the Therapist I am today.
Helping People Is A Gift To Others,
But Also Myself
Being a Therapist is rewarding. I love working alongside my clients in achieving a more fulfilling life and seeing them finally getting the life they desire. The most rewarding thing about being a Therapist is seeing a person walk away lighter, more free, and excited about their life.
I am committed to supporting you in rediscovering authenticity and meaningful connection.
I Have Empathy For Others And Bring An Open, Non-judgemental Presence To Sessions
I have a natural ability to:
Help people identify what they are feeling
Explain mental health symptoms in an easy to understand way
Be flexible on the path of discovering what's going on
Accept people for who they are and in their current life circumstances
People who know me often say that I am a good listener who can be fully present for people's stories, even if they are difficult stories.
Our Sessions Are Focused On You
Sessions will provide you with the space to be in touch with yourself. In feeling safe and comfortable, you'll be able to figure things out about yourself and feel what you need to feel.
It's important to me to provide a non-judgemental space where you can be yourself and stay open to any feedback and questions you may have. There isn't a "one size fits all" approach to Therapy. Our sessions will fit your specific needs and concerns.
As A Therapist, I Embrace the
Following Philosophies
I believe that you deserve to feel better
I believe that you are worthy of love and care
I believe that we only heal if we take care of ourselves
I believe that change is possible when you allow yourself the space to do the work
I believe that loving and accepting ourselves for who we are, scars and all, is one of the most courageous things we can do
My Professional Background
I initially entered into the field of mental health with the intention of working within the realm of substance use treatment. Through my experiences with clients, I was able to identify additional needs within the community including gender informed and affirming care, polyamory, and asexuality.
In 2024, I completed Widener University’s Sex Therapy Certificate program as well as obtained my credential as an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist. In 2026, I obtained a Master of Education in Human Sexuality through Widener University and have begun working on my dissertation as I pursue my doctorate with Widener University.
